starting to Run

A while ago I posted about our new treadmill (Epic 705).  We have had it for a few weeks no and I have gone on a few walks.

Over the weekend I have the opportunity to participate in the GW Classic.  I got up early on a Sunday, 5:30am to be exact.  I got all my items together and headed out to door to drive to my friend's house.  I had never been to her house and got hopelessly lost.  She had to leave her house at 7:45 to walk over to the starting area.  I never made it.  I got home around 8:30 (yes I left my house at 6:45).  I was so frustrated and upset with myself and with Google Maps.  They gave me bad directions.  I went back and doubled checked to be sure.  Still bad directions.  I went to sleep for a bit and then I got up and did a 5k on my treadmill.

It was mind blowing how horribly awful and out of shape I am.  I ran for about the first 4 minutes.  Then I had to alternate between walking and jogging to finish the 5k.  It took longer to finish than I'd like to admit.  It was a good kick in the bum though.  I see how badly my cardio activity has slowed down due to my lounging lifestyle.  I plan to do much more activity and get that 5k time under 30 minutes.  I have used the C25k in the past and it has worked wonderfully for me.  For those that don't know what it is, it is a program called Couch to 5k.  It is a 9 week training program to help give you that jump start you may need.

I have also been doing Bikram Yoga.  I am really enjoying it.  I have tried it a few times before and had horrific experiences, but I see now that it was due to the instructor making the experience unenjoyable.  I have found a great studio near my office that I can go to on the way home and it isn't a bad drive if I go home first and then come back out to it.

Keep working out any way you can!
